Why update the news page for a band that broke up 2 and a half years ago? Because we love happy endings.

After band tension (and we mean tension) and much finger-pointing on the faults about dwindling audiences and criticism on various aspects of many things, Eric Stroud was ejected from the band and the "band" ceased to be. The problem with a trio is that often two members will get closer, alienating the 3rd. Without getting too specific, that's pretty much what happened. At the time, it looked like Eric was trying to get himself fired because he certainly wasn't happy in the band. Adam and Eric, who had been playing together for five formative years ceased their friendship and indeed quibbled back and forth about whose fault this or that was, unable to speak without shouting.

Life has a way of teaching us lessons, and showing us what's important. What's NOT important is a bunch of BS like ego-tripping, arguing about whose fault something is when the blame is really to be shared equally and the music industry in general. What IS important is friendship, creating music for the right reasons and reaching down deep inside yourself to let go of past mistakes and growing as a person.

At Adam's 25th birthday party (fittingly, at Windows on the Cumberland), Superhype stood onstage as a band again. It was a quiet statement of peace and as an example of the power of music being able to overcome human shortcomings. All agreed that the short set was Superhype's finest moment, ironically years after breaking up and without the benefit of even one practice. They performed bone-crushing versions of "Something New", "Home" and a handful of other tunes during a more laid-back portion of the night's festivites.

"This is the best birthday present I could have asked for. To have Superhype back, if only for one night. But more importantly I got my friend back." - Adam McIntyre
Mini-update: Adam McIntyre has a new website and a new CD out June 10th
